ASU WIN – Swissport gives undertakings to Fair Work Commission

16 January 2020 By ASU, the airlines industry union

In December 2020, the Fair Work Commission (‘Commission’) found that Swissport’s Aerocare Collective Agreement 2018 (‘Swissport Agreement’) did not meet the minimum legal standards for wages and conditions in the Airlines Award. They invited Swissport to update the pay and conditions of the Swissport Agreement so that they met the minimum legal standards through legally binding undertakings.

On Thursday, 9 January 2020, Swissport provided a number of undertakings to the Commission. Amongst other things, Swissport has promised to:

  • Pay higher rates of pay
  • Guarantee all causals a minimum of 4 hours pay per shift
  • Pay casuals overtime when they work more than 12 hours per day or

But these promises don’t go far enough. The ASU is calling on Swissport to provide undertakings that guarantee that:

  • Split shifts will not be worked by anyone at Swissport
  • Permanent employees will be paid overtime when they work outside their daily rostered hours or when their shifts are changed at short notice.

On Thursday, 16 January 2020, we filed submissions explaining these problems to the Fair Work Commission.

Swissport can end this fight now! All it needs to do is give the undertakings proposed by the ASU.
