Your ASU bargaining team met with Menzies management in Sydney on 3 July 2018.
We presented the items on our log of claims regarding overtime, permanent employment and job security. Management will consider these items and report back to us at the next meeting.
There was also further discussion of our claims raised at the last meeting. This included return to work after parental leave arrangements, the process for taking DILs and annual leave, rostering practices and the 12 hour break between ordinary shifts.
We also spoke to the manager responsible for the role out of the new rostering software. We have asked for further consultation before the software is fully implemented.
Management haven’t given us their claims in writing yet. Management also say that they might pursue a B Scale if other ground handlers try to cut the pay and conditions of their employees. So we can’t be sure what they want.
We’ve heard what management have had to say, but we need them to confirm what they are actually asking for. We’ll keep pushing for a fair agreement.
What next?
The next bargaining meeting is on 30 July 2018 in Melbourne. We will be discussing our claims for permanent employment, job security and overtime.
What can I do to help?
It’s pretty simple. Support your delegates on the bargaining team – they need to know you are behind them all the way. If you work with anyone who isn’t an ASU member, ask them to join on line at: https://www.asu.asn.au/asujoin
