ASU members at Jetstar have contacted the Union about the outcome of the Australian Federation of Airline Pilots (AFAP) and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) ballots to take industrial action over the Christmas period.
For a few months, the AFAP and TWU have been pursuing a new agreement (EBA) with Jetstar for their members. Last Friday (6 December) members of both Unions voted in favour of taking industrial action to progress negotiations with the airline over their wages, terms and conditions of employment.
What happens now?
Each Union mentioned above will need to give Jetstar 3 days’ written notice of any actions it intends commencing during a 30 day window. They will also identify what type of action they will undertake, the date and time any action will commence and how long it will last for.
The ASU Victorian Private Sector branch has already contacted Jetstar to seek information about the contingencies that may be needed for ASU members during the Christmas period, when the above mentioned Unions may take industrial action. Representatives have requested to meet with Jetstar as a matter of urgency to ensure that Jetstar provide that detail now and keep us up to date on their plans.
We will also continue to keep members posted with an update on activity by the other Unions which may impact Jetstar's operations and flights.
