It’s time for ASU members at SQ to make a decision about the future of their EBA. Join the ASU Meeting at 5.00PM Eastern Time, on Monday, 13 July 2020 to have your say on management’s proposal to pause bargaining for 6 months. Click here to register.
Your bargaining team has reached an ‘in principle’ agreement with SQ MNT about the details of the pause on bargaining. This means we think that we’re close to a deal, but we need members’ endorsement of the proposal before we can sign on the dotted line.
What do I need to know?
- Bargaining will be paused for 6 months until January 2021.
- Your EBA is protected. Your EBA will continue until it is replaced by a new EBA or terminated by the Fair Work Commission. Management has given a binding promise not to seek to terminate the EBA.
- Progress in bargaining is preserved. When we start discussions again in January, we’re picking up discussions where we left off.
- We can start bargaining again if something changes. Management have agreed to discuss starting bargaining again if circumstances change before January 2021. They’ve agreed they cannot unreasonably refuse to start bargaining.
- We’ll keep working with management for a fairer, better workplace at Singapore Airlines.
These principles will be recorded in a Memorandum of Understanding (‘MOU’) between the ASU, MNT and ENT. We’ll be asking for your endorsement of the MOU at the members meeting. Click here to register.
We’ve been bargaining with the company for 4 months. We’ve fought off Clause 33 and Appendix D – which are big wins. But the reality is that the company isn’t in a position to agree to our claims at this time. Rather than lock in a low wage EBA for three years, we need the time to make our union stronger, and a chance to negotiate a better deal in January.
