This morning Qantas announced that 2,500 of its workers would be stood down for 2 months from mid-August.
This follows yesterday’s Federal Government announcement of a support package for aviation workers – but it remains unclear who is covered by that package.
The ASU is urgently seeking confirmation from the Government that airport staff will be included in the financial support package. We are also meeting with Qantas later today to discuss the impact of the standdown announcement on airport workers.
We will report more to members as soon as we have more information.
