The ASU has spent the last two weeks in negotiations with Mission Australia and Mission Providence to try and make the transfer arrangements for employees moving to Mission Providence fairer.
This morning, Mission Providence confirmed that it would be reissuing employees with amended contracts of employment. This will deal with a couple of major flaws in the contracts that were offered to employees. For example, originally, Mission Providence wanted the right to unilaterally change your position at any time! After pressure from the ASU this will be fixed!
If you haven't yet accepted an employment offer from Mission Providence you will be sent a new contract today, and will have until COB Monday to accept. If you have already accepted an employment offer, you will be issued a variation to your contract next week.
ASU members stood up to a multi-national for-profit company, and won. Well done!
Unfortunately, Mission Australia and Mission Providence still refuse to compensate employees for the lack of salary packaging at Mission Providence. This means many employees will lose thousands of dollars in their take home pay each year.
Mission Providence has failed its first test – it had an opportunity to show employees it would put them before profit and would treat them fairly – but it has shown its true colours.
We want to start enterprise bargaining shortly so that we can fight for improvements to your pay and conditions. But we already know negotiations with Mission Providence will be tough – the only way we will be able to achieve good outcomes for employees is if employees stand together.
