31 July 2013 By ASU

2013rail-safety-week logoWith members in the rail sector, the ASU is promoting Rail Safety Week from 12-18 August. The focus is on improving the safety of everyone around railway lines.

Visit the Rail Safety Week website to learn about the issues. There are resources and videos to help raise awareness.

From the website

Rail Safety Week aims to improve education and awareness surrounding the correct way to behave at level crossings and around railway lines. It is vital to obey the warning signs and signals at all times, and accessing railway property is not only dangerous but illegal and punishable by law.

The Issues

Rail Safety Week aims to improve education and awareness around how to behave safely around railway lines and level crossings. If people go to take a risk around railway lines, they fail to realise that trains simply cannot stop quickly and that they are in fact risking their lives.

During Rail Safety Week operators come together to promote safety messages around level crossing and track safety. Train passengers are responsible for knowing how they should and should not behave on trains, around railway lines, at stations, and on rail property.

STOP, LOOK, LISTEN, THINK.
