ASU is consulting with Virgin about Guest Services rostering

30 June 2020 By ASU, the airlines industry union

Rostering discussions will be an ongoing and evolving process. We will be talking with ASU members every step of the way.

We’re meeting with Customer Services management

The ASU have opened discussions with Virgin Australia about longer term solutions to rostering.

Many ASU members have raised concerns about the time they have already spent out of the workplace. We’ll be working to maximise the number of staff engaged, and reviewing opportunities for staff to maintain currency, as well as other training opportunities.

The Company has put up a revised EOI process for RP8 and RP9. They have also confirmed their assessment that flying isn’t going to return to capacity for some time.

ASU delegates in Guest Services have raised some initial concerns with the draft-EOI. We think there are too many unknowns to get the process right for RP8 – we need adequate time to talk with you about a fairer and more equitable process for allocating the available work.

The ASU will meet with management again before an EOI is sent to you. We will keep you updated as discussions continue.

ASU members want the Government to bring in an extension of the current JobKeeper package

JobKeeper is currently due to end in just 100 days - even though it is clear that it will take airlines longer to bounce back than other parts of the economy, and it is unlikely that people will resume interstate and international travel at the pre-COVID-19 rates for some time.

The Government is planning its next steps for the economic recovery right now, and we need to take urgent action to ensure that they back Australian aviation workers. Please take a moment to sign the petition calling on the Government to bring in AviationKeeper now!

Ask your friends and colleagues to sign the petition here: https://bit.ly/AviationKeeperNow.
