ASU election year 2023

All elected National and Branch positions in the ASU are up for re-election this year.

Officers of the Union are elected every four years and all eligible members are entitled to run for Branch offices.

Branch Nominations open on Wednesday 3 May 2023 and close at 4 pm on Wednesday 24 May 2023.

National Nominations will open following the completion of the Branch elections.

Nomination Notices for all ASU Branch offices, election Information and team & individual nominations forms (Election Materials) are accessible for each Branch by the links below.

The Election Materials are also available on each respective Branch website.

ASU elections are conducted by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).

The AEC has appointed Ann Dougan as the Returning Officer email: IEBevents@aec.gov.au

The Nomination Notices will also be published on the AEC website. Nominations forms (team and individual) for a Branch Office can also be obtained from the AEC.

National offices:

National President;
National Vice-President;
National Secretary; and
Assistant National Secretary,

will be elected by, and from, the National Executive members in a Statge 2 election after the declaration of all Branch representatives on the National Executive.

Some ASU Branches also have Stage 2 elections once offices elected in the Stage 1 elections are declared. These include: Queensland Together, New South Wales and ACT (Services) and South Australian and Northern Territory Branches.

The elections are conducted under the rules of the Union and the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009.

ASU members are urged to make sure the Union has their correct address as the elections will be conducted by post with the AEC posting ballot papers to home addresses.
